By most accounts, Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh, is a moderate fellow.
You can now include the Campaign for America's Future, a liberal advocacy organization that pointed out his bipartisan streak in a most pointed way.
Bill Owens "Does NOT support the middle class," according to the organization, which hews to the Democratic Party's base.
Mr. Owens was dinged for voting to extend the Bush tax cuts for everybody, regardless of income level. Mr. Owens says he wants to see income taxes rise on those who make more than $500,000, but said he was doing the moderate, reasonable thing by voting to extend them for everyone in the absence of a compromise.
He was also criticized for voting to approve a trade deal with South Korea.
On his right, Republican Matt Doheny is telling everyone that Mr. Owens is no moderate. And on the left, he's not welcome among some of the most liberal voices of his party, either.
It goes to show that you can't please everyone all the time.
