BRASHER FALLS - Tupper Lake coach Dennis Klossner had faith on Saturday.
After his Lumberjacks took a 20-14 lead with 8:00 left on the clock in the fourth quarter after Mitch Keniston broke loose for a 29 yard scoring scamper. Klossner called for an on-sides kick and Devin Larson recovered at the Larries 44.
Keniston and Elliott Kerst had runs of 11 and 10 and Jeremy Roussel had two six yard carries to step-up Kersts eight yard TD run with 4:12 to play.
After we got a good kickoff return and a score to go ahead, I saw the momentum shift. I had confidence in our defense and our offense was moving the ball better. We just executed, said Klossner whose Lumberjacks earned the right to host St. Lawrence Central on Friday evening for the Tier II semi-final. Canton travels to Massena on Friday for the other Tier II semi-final.
Brock Tarbox had a 35 yard plus kickoff return to spark the go ahead scores field position. Tarbox also caught a 25 yard throw from Keniston in the second period with 9:18 left for a 6-0 lead. Larson picked up a big first down on the drive and Roussell had a 17 yard pickup to key the score.
The Larries answered back when Devin Euto connected with Corey LaBarge on a five yard touchdown. David Plante had a key first down catch on the drive and Tyler Smith and Jesse Greer both had big 10 yard plus runs in the drive which combed 55 yards on 11 plays.
Tupper Lake looked like it was going to widen the lead at halftime but Taylor Richard picked off a Keniston pass in the endzone.
The Lumberjacks took a 14-6 lead with 2:49 left in the third when Roussel scored on a nine yard run and Ian Gillis PAT kick converted. Keniston had a 12 yard pass to Brandon Duchaine key the drive.
St. Lawrence answered back when Devon Euto rolled out to his leftside for a 10 yard score with 14:41 left in the fourth after Euto connected with Taylor Ramsdell for a 31 yard pass and catch hookup and a big five yard defensive offsides penalty earlier in the drive.
Offensively, Roussel had 129 yards on 20 carries and one touchdown for Tupper Lake. Keniston garnered 114 yards on 14 runs and scored rushing touchdown to go with a 52 yards passing and one touchdown. Kerst (6-36) and Tanner Charland (4-44) also contributed.
The Larries were led by Euto who completed nine passes for 104 yards and one touchdown and ran for 14 yards and scored. Greer (11-42) and Smith (3-17) also worked the backfield while Ramsdell had 55 yards. LaBarge had two catches for eight yards and a score.
