MASSENA - A 24 point second quarter sparked the 7-0 Massena Junior Varsity Football team coached by Nick Zappia and Ed Letham to a 40-0 win over OFA on Wednesday.
Patrick Manning led a balanced offense with 108 yards on 19 carries including a 10-yard touchdown run as the junior Raiders broke open a close game with 24 unanswered second quarter points. Zach Plourde ran for 68 yards on four tries including a 35-yard touchdown scamper. Maddox Merry also had a productive game passing the ball, connecting on four of five passes for 58 yards including touchdown strikes to Jayce Lanning of 23 and 14 yards. Bobby Toddey had an 18-yard touchdown catch.
OFAs rushing was led by Joey Dalton (18-102), Taylor Richardson (4-28), Austin VanGordon (1-10), and Ed Newcombe (1-6). Dalton was three of eight passing for 31 yards as Nick Sweeney (20 yards), VanGordon (seven yards) and Cody Rolfe (four yards) each had a catch. Richardson led the defense with 14 tackles. Joey Loffler and Allen Smithers (interception) recorded seven tackles each while Sweeney added six stops.
Rounding out OFA defensively were: Rolfe (4 tackles), VanGordon (4), Devin Compo (4), Nathan Rishe (3), Andy Rickett (2), Justin Ross (4), Andrew Layng (4), Quinn Denner (2), Zach Worden (2), Adam Bouchey (2), Ed Newcombe (2), and Zadrian Lesperance (3).On special teams, Conor Badlam (1-10), VanGordon (1-24), and Layng (1-10) each had a return on a kickoff.
