OGDENSBURG — Tim Horton’s, the iconic Canadian fast food restaurant chain, is coming to Ogdensburg.

The company plans to open in the Parkway Express building, 1111 Champlain St., on Dec. 17, according to Michael Webster, Parkway’s director of operations.

The building houses a convenience store and Subway, A&W and Long John Silver’s restaurants; it also sells gasoline.

Tim Horton’s will occupy 1,600 square feet of space that was once occupied by Wimpy’s Restaurant.

The company’s plans for a customer drive-thru lane have already been approved by the city, according to interim Planning and Development Director Andrea L. Smith. But the city code enforcement office has yet to receive an application for a building permit so that renovations can be made.

Tim Horton’s spokeswoman Brynn Burton declined to comment on the Ogdensburg plans.

“We do not comment on restaurants in the planning or construction phases,” she said in an email transmission. “We are looking forwarded to continuing to grow in markets where we have a presence across New York state.”

According to the company’s website, the there are Tim Horton’s in Central New York, many combined with Tops Markets and Coldstome Creameries.. Nationwide, there are 734 restaurants.

“I think it’s fantastic news,” said Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sandra M. Porter.

Parkway’s other businesses are: Parkway Ford/Polaris, Ogdensburg; Parkway Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep, Russell Road, Canton; and Parkway Express convenience store/gas stations on Route 37 in Morristown and Route 56 in Norfolk.
