TUPPER LAKE - After tying up any loose ends for the Northern Athletic Conference Football playoffs, Ogdensburg Free Academy will take up the challenge of completing regular season against undefeated Potsdam.
The Blue Devils climbed to 4-2 and secured the fourth seed in the playoffs with a 45-20 victory at injury-riddled Tupper Lake on Friday night while 6-0 Potsdam clinched a regular season crown by downing Gouverneur 30-8 in a duel of unbeatens.
OFA will visit Potsdam on Friday night in what could be a preview of the playoff semi-finals the following week.
OFA 45 - Tupper Lake 20: Senior quarterback Nate Angel rambled for a career high 228 yards on 12 carries and found the endzone on runs of 14, 13 and four yards leading a Devil ground-game which churned out 385 yards allowing the Devils to overcome five fumbles.
After Tupper Lake scored on a 33-yard pass from Mitch Keniston to Cody LaPierre (2-39). Angel answered with a 14-yard run and Jordan McCormick (8-79) scored on runs of 16 and five yards and OFA took a 19-7 first quarter lead on the first three PAT kicks by Josh Liebstein.
The margin was stretched to 39-7 as Angel (14 yards) and fullback Zach Sharpe (14 runs) scored rushing TDs in the second quarter and Angel scored from four yards out in the third quarter. Sharpe rushed for 71 yards on seven carries and produced the games only interception.
Keniston (8x25-1-109 2 TDs) found Brock Tarbox (2-31) for a 26-yard TD pass and Tanner Charland scored on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter where OFAs Hunter Planty rounded out the scoring with a five-yard run.
Potsdam 30, Gouverneur 8: The Stoners scored on their first three possessions of the game marching to 6-0. Oden Robertson (14-101) scored on two 20 yard touchdown runs in the first half and scored on a two yard run in the third quarter. Garrett Kilgore caught a 25 yard touchdown pass from Will Coleman in the second quarter.
Coleman had 54 yards rushing and 108 yards passing keyed by a 83 yard reception to Jacob Woods.
Adrian McShane caught a 15 yard touchdown from Mark Horne in the fourth quarter with 48.2 seconds left for Gouverneur. Horne led the rushing effort with 65 yards on 17 totes. Levi Tupper had 56 yards on 10 carries.
