State Sen. Patty Ritchie's re-election campaign sent a photograph of Jefferson County Sheriff John Burns attending her campaign office opening in Watertown.
It's a little bit of bipartisanship in a partisan world. Mrs. Ritchie is a Republican, while Sheriff Burns is a Democrat.
The two have been working together recently on overcrowding at the Jefferson County lockup. Mrs. Ritchie recently pitched the idea of housing Sheriff Burns' overflow inmates at the state correctional facility. It's a sensible idea, to be sure, and one that the state will probably never go for.
It's the first time I've seen the two together in Mrs. Ritchie's tenure; she has an election coming up on Nov. 6 against Democrat Amy Tresidder, an Oswego County legislator.
