Ron Cole, the current acting chief of the Democratic Party, said Saturday that he is interested in taking over the position full-time in September.
Mr. Cole previously said he wasn't interested in returning to the position that he held years ago. But he changed his mind, he said, citing the gravity of the issues surrounding the upcoming elections.
Sean Hennessey, the former chairman, stepped down to become the chief of the Dulles State Office Building on Washington Street. Mr. Cole, who was first vice chairman, took over when Mr. Hennessey left several weeks ago.
Only one other candidate has publicly expressed interest in the position: Nancy Brown, the former county treasurer.
