The National Republican Congressional Committee is first with a TV ad buy in the 21st Congressional District media market in its effort to oust Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh.
Nat Sillin, a spokesman for the House Republican campaign operation, said the NRCC reserved $750,000 worth of television time in the Albany media market. The NRCC supports Republican Matt Doheny of Watertown. That's going to reach the counties in the new part of the district, like Saratoga County.
Mark Weiner of The Post-Standard was first to report on the ad buys in New York districts.
Fun fact: Only a part of Saratoga County is within the district, but if it were its own county, it would be the second-largest, after Jefferson, in the congressional district.
The new part of the district is being lavished with attention, and from the perspective of a congressional candidate, it's easy to see why. Forty percent of the district lives there. And unlike residents of Jefferson County, St. Lawrence County and Lewis County, they didn't see Mr. Doheny and Mr. Owens do battle in 2010. That's where the most undecided voters live.
Mr. Sillin said that the ad buy is only the beginning of the NRCC's commitment to NY21.
“This commitment is illustrative of our commitment to hold Bill Owens accountable for his continued support for Barack Obama’s failed policies like Obamacare that have made New York’s economy worse," Mr. Sillin said.
