North country residents might receive robocalls from Democrats attacking Republican Matt Doheny on Medicare.
That's according to a news release from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
Mr. Doheny, running against Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh, on Nov. 6, is one of 50 Democrats being targeted.
Here is the script:
"Hi. This is Julie calling from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee to alert you to a new development about Medicare.
Republican candidate for Congress Matt Doheny is backed by Washington Republicans whose budget would end Medicare and now the budget’s architect, Paul Ryan, is the Republican candidate for Vice President.
A nonpartisan analysis showed that Ryan’s budget would raise health care costs for seniors by $6,400. The Tax Policy Center also said the Ryan budget would give people making over $1 million a year an average tax break of $265,000.
That’s just wrong.
Call Matt Doheny at 315-405-4702 and tell him to not protect millionaires at the expense of Medicare and the middle class."
I have asked Mr. Doheny's camp for his position on the Medicare provisions in Rep. Ryan's budget, and will update when that happens.
Conservatives in general, meanwhile, are doing everything they can to push back on Democrats' claims.
To wit: The Upstate New York Tea Party released a statement today telling Mr. Owens to "stop scaring seniors".
“Medicare, like Social Security will soon go bankrupt. We must do something about it now," Mark Barie, the UNYTEA chairman, said in a news release. "Bill Owens, like Barack Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi, has no plan of his own except to deceive our senior citizens."
I'll have a story tomorrow about what Mr. Owens believes should be done about Medicare.
