MADRID - The 21st Madrid Canoe Regatta was held on Saturday and Sunday June 9 and 10 at the Madrid Community Park. Beautiful weather and calm water on the Grasse River made for a fun weekend of canoe and kayak racing.

Racers came from as far away as Rochester, Montreal, Ottawa, Maine, Pennsylvania and throughout NY State.

There were races of 3, 6, 9 and 13 miles held over two days.

The race featured several area winners.

Canton: John and Gene Newman, Blanch Towne, Ben and Regina Budelmann, Paula and Peter Jensen-Moulton; Colton’s James Plumley, Fine’s Don Roy, Madrid’s Bill Short, Tim Morse, and Alyssa Gagnon, Potsdam’s Will and Ellie Sigfried, Rensselaer Falls’s Allen and Mary Kelly.

The event wouldn’t been possible without the ever-present guidance for the Moulton family.
