Canton’s Foster named NEAC’s Offensive Player of Year

CAZENOVIA — Cazenovia College midfielder Christy Foster, a native of Canton, received Offensive Player of the Year honors from the North Eastern Athletic Conference after her record-breaking season for the Wildcats.

Foster completed her senior season with a school-record 78 goals, shattering the old mark of 62. Foster scored nine goals in her final game, Cazenovia’s 18-15 overtime loss to Keuka College on Sunday in the semifinals of the NEAC playoffs.

Foster finished the year with 83 points, 60 groundballs, 70 draw controls and 34 caused turnovers through 17 games. She is Cazenovia’s career points leader.

■ Former South Jefferson women’s lacrosse player Kayla Scully helped backstop Canisius College’s 15-11 victory over Fairfield on Sunday in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship in Buffalo.

Scully, a freshman, made four saves as Canisius won its second straight MAAC title and won a birth in the NCAA tournament. Scully’s former South Jefferson teammate, Whitley Perry, also is a member of the Golden Griffins. Perry, also a freshman, has 10 goals and 14 points in 18 games with Canisius.
