Rep. Bill Owens had a strong first quarter of 2012, raising just over $240,000 for his Nov. 6 re-election effort.
The haul helped Mr. Owens, with a $718,484 war chest, extend his wide fundraising lead on Republican Matt Doheny, who raised about $154,000 and had $418,000 "on hand" — cash on hand basically means how much money a campaign is going to be able to spend. Mr. Doheny has signaled a willingness to dip into his personal wealth to help fund his campaign, as he did last year to the tune of more than $2 million.
