DEKALB JUNCTION An apartment complex was ruled a total loss by firefighters Wednesday afternoon after a blaze that left nine people homeless. Fire Chief Robert Drake said the fire started in a back apartment and spread throughout two other apartments.
It was a very good response, Chief Drake said.
The apartment complex at 2901 County Route 17 was once a roller skating rink.
Chief Drake said Red Cross is assisting the families. He said a cause has not been determined, but foul play has been ruled out.
His department was assisted by crews from Hermon, Gouverneur, Canton, Richville and Rensselaer Falls.
