The New York Power Authority has a new president.
The state Senate confirmed Gil Quiniones to serve at the helm of NYPA, a powerful state authority whose economic development interests throughout the north country in general, and in Massena in particular, are vast.
Mr. Quiniones follows the rocky tenure of President Richie Kessel, who resigned as president and CEO last year. The ever-quotable Mr. Kessel was the target of state investigations over grants to non-power related groups.
State Sen. Patty Ritchie, a Republican senator from Heuvelton who sits on the Energy Committee, hailed the confirmation.
“Gil Quiniones is no stranger to the issues facing Northern and Central New York and the role the New York Power Authority can play in helping to spur the upstate economy," Mrs. Ritchie said in a news release.
