The state Senate will take up the Iran Divestment Act on Monday, Majority Leader Dean Skelos said in a news release today.
From the news release: "The legislation directs the Office of General Services to create a list of people, corporations and other organizations with investments of more than $20 million in the Iranian energy sector. Those on the list would be excluded from bidding on government contracts."
Iran is a nation that the United States has been at odds with, to say the least, since the Iran hostage crisis in the late 1970s and early 80s.
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver has said that the Iran Divestment Act is a priority for 2012. It will easily pass that chamber.
It will also easily pass the Senate. Republican Sens. Patty Ritchie and Joe Griffo are sponsors of the bill.
