WASHINGTON — Rep. William L. Owens, D-Plattsburgh, spent part of last week in Taiwan, hoping to attract a computer chip manufacturer to New York, his spokesman confirmed today on the heels of a report by the Albany Times-Union.
The newspaper, citing a report by a Taiwan news agency, reported that he visited last Wednesday. The congressman's spokesman, Sean Magers, said the congressman was there for much of last week.
The news report said Mr. Owens visited with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. but that it is not clear what type of investment the company is considering.
Mr. Magers said Mr. Owens was not accompanied by other lawmakers. He offered no other details and said the congressman's office kept quiet about the trip because he wouldn't have details until the congressman returned.
