Sackets Harbor will be recognized.
A minor skirmish ensued this morning when some north country folks saw a display at the state Capitol, which left the Lake Ontario village off of a list of battlefronts in the War of 1812. Sackets was a major launching point for American ships and Marines.
But, said Matt Wing, a spokesman for the governor, that's just because the final display hasn't been put up yet.
"The final display will recognize Lake Ontario and Sackets Harbor," Mr. Wing said.
That should give heart to the many folks who were concerned about the first draft of this timeline.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has vetoed bills that would create a War of 1812 commission, perplexing many folks in the north country. The commission would have planned state events next year. Mr. Cuomo pointed to potential costs of the commission, but authors of the bill said the estimated cost was way out of whack.
