Former Clarkson assistant coach Ron Rolston, who was a finalist for the Golden Knights' head coaching job this spring, will be introduced as the head coach of the American Hockey League's Rochester Americans on Wednesday morning. Rochester is the AHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Buffalo Sabres.
The Watertown Daily Times was the first news organization to report Rolston's hiring via a tweet yesterday afternoon and the news has also been picked up by Rochester newspaper and television stations.
Rolston was an assistant with Clarkson from 1996-99, helping lead the Golden Knights to an ECAC Hockey Tournament championship as well as two regular-season titles. The team also made the NCAA Tournament in each of his three seasons.
Prior to Clarkson he was an assistant coach at Lake Superior State and he also has served as an assistant at Harvard and Boston College. He has spent the last seven years coaching the U.S. Under-17 and 18 teams.
One of Rolston's players could be former Clarkson goalie David Leggio, who is in the Buffalo Sabres system.
